Scenes from Spaghetti Western Nite @ Forbidden Island 7/8/10

The timing turned out to be off, since it happened the same night as the latest downtown Oakland riots (the real Wild, Wild West!), which no doubt scared some off-islanders from venturing out after dark in these parts of the East Bay, but THRILLVILLE'S SPAGHETTI WESTERN NITE, featuring free spaghetti (!), prizes, cocktail specials and live music by "PASTA DEL MAR," normally known as POLLO DEL MAR, performing sizzling "spaghetti-surf" sonic re-stylings of classic Ennio Morricone scores, as trailers from Sergio Leone films and others played on the screen behind them, was still a lot of fun. This was my final "bar theme night" for a while, not counting my new, continuing Forbidden Thrills movie nites (the next one being "MERMAID MANIA" on Monday July 19). Thrillville as most people know it is in a transition period - again - as I downshift from the big, multi-media gigs, especially in movie theaters, to smaller, "Chillville" events, and concentrate my creative energy and efforts much more on my writing. I still have my TRIBUTE TO BOB WILKINS at the Camera 3 in San Jose next week on Wednesday July 14, then on the following Thursday, July 22, it's our debut at the legendary Roxie in San Francisco (part of the Another Hole in the Head fest) with the West Coast premiere of MIL MASCARAS VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY and live music by Carne Cruda; and then, finally, our very last road show of "the season" (and maybe forever), hosting the Midnight Movie at TIKI OASIS 10 in San Diego on Saturday, August 21. These are all perfect ways to wind up Thrillville: the Post-Speakeasy Road Show before I settle down at my new home base, Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge. Aloha & Salud!
